The National Trust energy strategy to 2020 entitled “Grow your own” was approved by the Trustees and published in January 2010.  Within it, we committed to: conserve energy; grow our own electricity and heat; get off oil, and; provide inspiration.  These steps would be supported through two agreed energy KPIs:

1.         reduce our combined heating and power consumption by 20% by 2020 (against a 2009 baseline).

2.         generate at least 50% of the remaining consumption through renewable energy sources using our own resources.

In 2015 the Board of Trustees approved a targeted Renewable Energy Investment (REI) Programme, using four tried and tested technologies (biomass, hydro, solar pv and heat pumps).  The Programme will help the Trust take a major step towards greater energy security and business resilience.

About the role:

Supporting our ambitious plan to generate more of our energy from renewable sources, you’ll work to a Project Management Framework as you deliver our hydro power projects in Wales.

What it’s like to work here

We want the special places in our care to be enjoyed centuries from now. That’s our vision. And to be sustainable for the future, we need to ensure we’re making the most efficient use of natural resources, water and energy right now. We’ve put in place an ambitious plan to reduce our energy bill by £4million per annum by 2020 by delivering 50% of our energy from renewable sources. As part of that, we’re introducing 43 renewable energy installations across the places we look after, which is where you come in.

What you’ll be doing

Focusing on our hydro projects in Wales, you’ll manage our programme of projects here, providing leadership and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders. Working within the National Trust’s Project Management Framework, you’ll lead and deliver individual projects making sure everyone involved is motivated, well informed and that proper provision is in place in order to deliver successfully on time and to budget. We’d also like you to work in collaboration, where necessary, with our Hydro Project Managers based in the Lake District, and build an excellent working relationship with our Lead Consultants on these projects. The systems you put in place will help shape similar future projects, so this is an excellent opportunity to have a real impact on the future of renewable energy at the National Trust.

You’ll need to spend on average three days per week in the Snowdonia region.
